fall photos from a cheap camera

October 24, 2012 § Leave a comment

Being on the East Coast for fall is a beautiful thing. I still can’t believe how surreal and vibrant all of the changing leaves look.

I recently got some more film developed from my cheap, thrift-store camera. Among the photos were these fall captures.

Just wanted to share them. Enjoy.

Here they are, my first photos with the new camera.

I have to say the first two rolls of film were mostly a wash. Nothing spectacular. Although, I was happy to see I didn’t have too many problems with light leaking.

These photos aren’t great, but the best of the bunch. They were taken around my neighborhood and in Pittsburgh’s South Side.

Finding a place to get film developed is not always easy these days, but we were able to get ours developed in an hour (ish) at Costco — and for only about $4 and some change each! Not too bad.

Hopefully now that I know what to expect, the next round will have some better results!

DIY crazy

I have been crafting like crazy lately!

As mentioned before, the thrift store by my house is filled with gems. Last time I stopped by, I found the jewelry box you see above for $1.99. It was a little dirty and kind of plain, but all I had to do was sand it down, disassemble it and throw down 79 cents for some craft paint and voila! Now I have a little more real estate for my jewelry.

I’m also just a teensy bit obsessed with the DIYs from the gals at Honestly, WTF. I can’t stop making these macrame bracelets or this decoupage purse.

What have you been obsessing over lately?

a little thing called film: part deux

April 25, 2012 § 2 Comments

Yesterday, I mentioned that I received my developed film from my latest batch of Holga photos (“latest” is a bit of a stretch since I took them about two years ago).

They were taken in my home town of San Diego and these are the best of the color shots — the last one is crazy blurry, but I love the triple exposure. I will be trying this one again!

Enjoy!

This is what my life feels like today. So many things to accomplish, so little time to do it!

the wall

Sooo, I’ve been settled on the Burgh for a few months now, but I still need to decorate my walls.

I have this big, empty wall across from my bed and I have no idea how I should decorate it. I feel like I want to make something, but what?

Alas, I will keep thinking …

I read this NYT story and had to share it. It’s a great article (well done Penelope Green!) about this funny couple’s living arrangement, but it’s also a very sweet love story.

lake break

Last weekend I discovered a great state park and lake not too far from my house.

As I was hiking, it reminded me of all of the times I’ve visited Lake Tahoe (but less beautiful, I’m sorry Pennsylvania). I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you can rent stand-up paddle boards.

It’s gloomy this week, but hopefully we’ll see pretty soon!

I really love the simple, graphic look of these Dahlia prints.

You can get them in just about any color.

Makes me think of spring!

tutu sweet

March 20, 2012 § Leave a comment

Did you guys see this? Yahoo did a story about it, but the man in the tutu, Bob Carey, has been taking these portraits of himself in a tutu to inspire and raise money for his wife with breast cancer. It’s such a sweet notion, not to mention his photos are so beautiful (and silly).

You can donate $500 and receive a print and copy of his book.
